Stunning landscaping achieved in fashionable WC1 building
Client objectives
The client wanted the finishing touches to their brand new, modern workspace on 8th and 9th floors in London WC1 to be no less inspiring. For the roof terrace on the 9th, the client wanted to completely replant 71 existing large empty planters and troughs and inside, something distinctive, corporate and classy was needed to complement and bring to life the cutting-edge new working environment.
Aureo’s solution
Working with an in-house Workplace Experience Specialist, our designers came up with a blend of exterior planting that included 2 species of hardy grasses for the troughs (Carex Evergold and Festuca Glauca), Olea europaea (Olive trees) for the largest planters and a mix of Skimmia Japonica ‘Rubella’ and Pittosporum Tobira for the medium and small planters.
Inside, using a brilliant mix of interesting shaped Polyrock planters in a distinctive riven concrete finish, an expert specification was designed – bearing in the mind the need for a range of attention-grabbing species and their positioning, sometimes in low light areas. Beaucarnea Recurvata, Sansevieria Zeylanica, Ficus Bonsai and Ficus Cyathistipula, all played their part – with a display of beautiful white orchids in a tall circular planter of woven banana fibres in the reception to crown the scheme.
The results
Aureo transformed a barren 9th floor roof terrace utilising the clients existing planters together with a brand new design-led specification for the interior. This is just the sort of project in which Aureo excel; driven by demanding criteria but with enough slack to let loose our creativity, woven with our expertise in corporate horticulture. Given the various practical constraints, particularly with roof terrace planting and some areas of low light inside, the result was a well-balanced but transformative design that continues to mature and enhance the workspace of this client.
