This was the challenge with which we were presented by a pharmaceutical marketing & communications company in London when they launched their inspirational new offices- a transformed former ferry workshop on the banks of the Thames, to accommodate its expanding team of creative employees.
Aureo Case Study
Creative planting for marketing company
Complimenting the architect’s vision to create something truly outstanding, our designers seized the opportunity to let loose their imagination and expertise. The building had previously been the home of legendary British sports car manufacturers AC Cars in the early part of the twentieth century and prior to that, the Williams Central Steam Valve Company in the nineteenth century -the spirit of innovation was definitely in the air when we surveyed the space.
Exposed Victorian iron beams complete with heavy fixings and rustic original timbers, combined with pristine glass partitioning, brushed chrome and exposed heating ducts…this was surely a project that allowed us to demonstrate our expertise in blending nature with the extremes of historic and contemporary surroundings.
Architectural plants with robust, distinctive containers created an immediate statement in the reception area, with the braided natural fibres surrounding the planters harmonising perfectly with the wooden floors.
Elsewhere, a very specific brand colour was required to electrify the creative atmosphere. A vintage purple colour used by another famous car manufacturer, Ford, in the 70’s, was researched and applied to the planters, matching the theme in the staff breakout area. Plants with a strong presence were then introduced; Beaucarnea, Ficus Bonsai and Draceana Marginata – all of which exhibit a distinctive structure to contrast with the sleek lines of the modern office.
For the upper office we installed a spectacle in the form of a Beaucarnea rooted in a Cubique400 planter, flanked by smaller planters in brand colours on the office cabinets. The contrast of the natural forms and the exposed ductwork created an idyllic environment for the design hub.
The plants are thriving thanks to a comprehensive maintenance plan and a second phase to the project has also been completed following the opening of further office areas within the building.
